OUR GOAL

At Amherst Dance Academy, our goal is to provide dance education, miscellaneous dancewear, and personal growth opportunities at a competitive and affordable price.  We take pride in being able to offer our dancers more than what they would find at other studios.  We also take very seriously the environment and education your dancer receives.  Our goal is to provide a challenging, positive, and fun environment that is influential in the lives of our dancers as we teach and build in your dancer proper dance technique, respect, discipline, and self-esteem.  We believe even difficult things can be achieved when the bar is set high and and the door of opportunity is left wide open for the dancer to walk through it.

OUR MISSION

Founded upon the premise of making dance fun for all ages, our studio doors opened seventeen years ago, under the name of Terrific Time Dance Studio.  Now, we are excited to serve you as Amherst Dance Academy!  A new name, but our foundation is the same.  We believe that dance is not just about competition, stage performance, and technique.  Dance is more powerful than that.  Don't get us wrong, though, we support and participate in competitions, performances, and dance recitals; and much of our class time is spent learning correct technique.  However, our main focus is making sure that the dancers learn to love dancing!  That means creating an environment that is positive and energetic.  We believe that each dancer should be given the opportunity to achieve something incredible, and this becomes possible when the environment reflects that the sky is the limit!

Amherst Dance Academy POLICIES AND REQUIREMENTS

The Dance Team is an extraordinary opportunity for your dancer to excel in his/her talents while performing at public events and competing at professional levels.  Not only will the team experience build confidence, but it will add professional spark to the dancer’s resumé.  Abiding by the policies set forth will ensure a positive and successful experience for your dancer and for the team.

Team Policies

TEAM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Dancers must have completed at least one full semester of dancing with ADA to qualify for team.

2. A dancer may qualify for team by either receiving a letter of invitation or by participating at a team audition.

3. All dancers that are on team must enroll at ADA in one team rehearsal class, one ballet technique class, and one other class of their choice.  Classes taken at other locations do not qualify for this requirement to be on team.  Dancers that are age 9 and under may enroll in one combo ballet/tap class instead of two full separate classes.

4. All team dancers must attend two choreography training camps during the summer to learn the dances for the following year.  Non-participation in these camps may forfeit the opportunity to participate in certain numbers on team for that year.

5. ADA may have videos available of the team choreography from the team camps to aid in training.  These videos are to aid in continued practice, not to replace the dance training during team camp.  If a dancer misses team camp, he/she may not be able to perform in the number where he/she was absent.  The decision in this situation is the instructors responsibility to evaluate the dancer and the ability to learn the dance.

6. All team dancers must make every effort to attend public performances including but not limited to the following: Rescue Squad, Day in the Park, Apple Harvest, Sorghum Festival, Drumheller Orchard, Holiday parades, convention, and competition.  Not participating in these activities, as with any team, may forfeit your position on the team.

 TEAM PERFORMANCE POLICIES

· Dancers are to be at the performance location 45 minutes prior to performance time.

· Dancers are to be in costume with hair, make-up, and misc. props ready to dance 10 minutes before performance time.

· If a dancer is late (arriving less than 30 minutes) to a team event/performance, then the dancer will be charged a $10 choreography fee.  This fee is to compensate the teacher to prepare to change the dance accordingly.  If the dancer is late and still arrives at the performance location in time to perform, the late fee will still be charged as the instructor already prepared to change the dance.  The late charge may be avoided by contacting the studio, Mr. Jason, or Miss Joy by 7:00 p.m.  on the night before the performance to give advance notice.

· If a dancer is absent without notice for any event/performance, then the dancer will be charged $10/dance for adjustments that will need to be made to all the numbers in which the dancer performs.  This fee may also be avoided by communicating clearly with the studio and the instructors on which days a dancer will be absent from a performance.

· If a dancer has 3 performance absences, then the dancer will serve a suspension from team until a conference is held with the dancer, a legal parent/guardian, and the team instructor to determine the position on team that the dancer holds.  This conference is in the best interest of the dancer as the instructor and the parent(s) discuss priorities and what is best for the dancer.  Dancing on team is a commitment that a dancer makes to him/herself, but it is also a commitment made to all the other dancers on the team.  If one dancers is not there, the whole team is effected.

· If there is a case where there are two performances in the same day, and the third absence occurs on the first performance of that day, then the dancer will still be allowed to perform in the second performance and the suspension will begin  after that second performance is complete.

· No food, candy, or gum in the costume

· All purchased costumes must be labeled in pen or permanent marker with dancer’s name and Terrific Time Dance Studio (434) 946-7340 to assist in the lost and found process if the costume is misplaced.

· Dancers are to arrive to performances wearing the designated team clothing decided by the instructor.  This might include team jackets, pants, shirts, or other team dancewear.

· Dancers are never to arrive or depart from a performance wearing dancewear that is not properly covered.  Leotards must be covered and all costumes must be properly put away.

· Smile, be friendly, and have a terrific time!  Enjoy your time dancing on team this year.  You will experience plenty of time dancing on stage!
